The Lion Sleeps

Synopsis

In 15AW, a cadet squad on a covert mission is ambushed and taken prisoner by the G-Army. Due to a previous skirmishes between the Galbadian Armed Forces and Balamb Garden operatives, the prisoners are taken to the D-District Prison for interrogation. The captured cadets included Kairah Namishiki, Squall Leonhart and Seifer Almasy.

All SeeD are currently out on assignment, and Garden cannot wait any longer for them to return. They are forced to mount a rescue operation with two squads of cadets: Alpha Squad (Strike) and Delta Squad (Holdout), who are driven out to the prison proper via Balamb Garden APC’s.

Alpha Squad was sent into the prison’s depths to locate the missing cadets and recover their gear, while Delta team held the escape route from falling into enemy hands. The combat was brutal. The extraction, while taking longer than expected, (due to a secret three-way duel between Acting Disciplinary Committee head Daniel Bastion, Almasy and Leonhart) was completed successfully but with five losses. Only Almasy, Leonhart and Kairah Namishiki survived from the original team. Following the melee, Cadet Kyriss Correll was sent away to his home in Galbadia after sustaining severe injuries and never returned to Balamb Garden.

Aftermath

Immediately following the squad’s withdrawal from D-District Prison with the three surviving prisoners, the politics between the Republic of Galbadia and Balamb Garden (which were already strained) became very tense. For a year and a half, Balamb Garden was outlawed from landing anywhere on Galbadian soil and any breach of this Presidential decree would be taken as an act of war.
