Government: Mayor & Council
Affiliation: Allied City State
Demonym: Timbrite
Population: 14,000
Geography: Timber is surrounded by thick woodlands, which is where it gets its name. It is located south of the vast Obel Lake, to which many sightseers visit.
Culture: In the years leading up to the Sorceress War, Timber’s mass media became increasingly critical of Galbadian politics and foreign affairs. This was heavily censored by the Mayor and city council when Galbadia occupied the Timber during the Sorceress War. Despite Sorceress Adel being defeated and the war ending, Galbadia remains in Timber. This is a sore point for many Timbrites who want their independence back. However, there are some that see Galbadia’s growing influence in Timber as a good thing and want to be officially absorbed by the larger nation.
Architecture: Its architecture blends new design philosophy with that of its ancient roots, with houses and stores having a stone-made look, while the TV station has a futuristic appearance. The mixture of Timber and Galbadia’s crests within the city allude to the town’s complicated history.
Industry: Timber is powered by its connectivity, and holds two major monopolies: railroad transportation and broadcasting: two industries that connect it to every major population centre the world over. Before the S. War, the broadcasting station was famous for producing and delivering wireless communications, news and entertainment to the people of Gaia. After the S. War, when strange atmospheric interference rendered almost all broadcasting technology useless, Timber saw a huge increase in the popularity and sales of magazines like Timber Maniacs. Now, after years of inactivity, the broadcasting station is now active again and regaining popularity. Meteor Mobile, the world’s foremost cellular carrier, has its main base of operations in Timber and is currently erecting cellular towers all over Galbadia.
History: An independent city state on the border of Galbadian territory. It used to belong to the Holy Dollet Empire before it fractured in 1739AW. Timber is known as the Media Capital of the world, which they used to critique the governments of the world, specifically The Republic of Galbadia. Then the war came, and in the interest of shoring up it’s nation’s defences – and by extension the defences of other independent cities that share the continent – Galbadia occupied Timber. It was used as a staging ground to mount operations against the forces of Esthar as well as a defensive bulwark to repel them from entering the homeland. The war ended and the Galbadian presence relaxed, but never left.
In the years since the war, Timber has grown to resent the G-Army’s presence. Officially, however, the local garrison is folded into the chain of command so that Timber’s militia acts as a police force that reports directly to the G-Army.
Timber boasts a train station even larger than Deling City, as well as a train manufacturing yard and serves as the hub for the Trans-Continental Railway.
Earlier in the year 17AW, a nameless sickness saw more than half of the citizens of Timber nearly comatose. After a quarantine was set up by the Galbadian Armed Forces, all the infected vanished without a trace. Since the mysterious event, which Timbrites call “the taking,” the city has struggled to regain its footing and relies heavily on relief aid.
Military: Timber used to have its own military troops while an independent city state, but following Galbadian occupation that body was largely dissolved and Galbadian soldiers serve as the peace-keeping force. To give its government a firmer presence, the Galbadian army has some of its troops stationed in Timber.
